Ashalind's Art now on Blogger!

Welcome viewers to the online blog of Ashalind's Art. My name is Rhiannon Mclachlan, but I'm more commonly known on the inter-webs as Ashalind and thus named my business after this handle. Currently, I'm based in Australia working full time for game studio Infinite Interactive, but in my spare time I like to dabble in fantasy and anthro art.

What is "Anthro" art you may ask? Well I probably should explain as it is rife within my portfolio and sometimes mis-understood. Anthro is short for anthropomorphic and most commonly refers to animals or objects given human characteristics. Anthro is often bundled along with the term "furry" but it is in fact a much broader term. I wouldn't really label myself a "furry" - I don't roleplay or where fursuits - but I do have some friends that are definitely in that category. I simply love to draw "were-creatures", which stems from my initial love of werewolves and heretofore my love of wolves.

So what's the difference? In my "mythology", anthros are primitive bipedal animals that wear minimal clothing and use only tools and resources found naturally in their world. They behave mostly like their true animal counterparts would in their environment and respect and nurture the planet. Furries are more modern; humans in animal form wearing things like denim and shoes and doing very human activities. I don't have much interest in them, but sometimes I will draw them on commission.

Anyway, often the lines between anthro and furry are blurred. Just try to enjoy my art without labels. :)
